Eric von Hippel is the recipient of a Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. This career-achievement award is granted "to academics whose fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in the future." The award honors von Hippel’s groundbreaking research on user innovations and his work fostering international exchange and scientific discussions around user innovation and open source innovation, including initiating the Open and UserInnovation Conference, which is now an internationally acclaimed forum. Von Hippel was also awarded an honorary doctorate of economics and social science by the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, a major German technical university, "for his path-breaking contributions in the research area of user innovation and for his tireless efforts to support young researchers in their academic career paths." This is his third honorary doctorate.

Wanda Orlikowski has been elected to the Fellowship of the British Academy, the UK’s national academy for the humanities and social sciences, as a Corresponding (non-UK) Fellow in Management and Business Studies (MBS). This is the highest honor that the Academy confers on non-UK residents, in recognition of Orlikowksi’s scholarly distinction in and her outstanding contributions to the social sciences and humanities. Founded in 1902, the British Academy aims to inspire, support, and promote outstanding achievement and global advances in the humanities and social sciences, as a Fellowship, funding body, and forum for debate and engagement.

Nemit Shroff and Michelle Hanlon have received the 2017 American Tax Association (ATA) Outstanding Manuscript Award. This annual award recognizes a significant contribution to the tax literature published during the three prior calendar years. The winning paper, co-authored with John R. Graham (Duke University Fuqua School of Business professor) and Terry Shevlin (University of California, Irvine Paul Merage School of Business professor), is entitled “Incentives for Tax Planning and Avoidance: Evidence from the Field.”

Jared Curhan received the "Best Theoretical Paper" award from the International Association for Conflict Management (IACM) at its 23rd Annual Conference held in Boston in late June. The winning paper, entitled "The other edge of the sword: Parallel and divergent effects on objective and subjective value in negotiation," is co-authored with Curhan's MIT Sloan doctoral student, Ashley Brown.

John Hauser and John D.C. Little were elected as inaugural Fellows of ISMS (the INFORMS Society of Marketing Science) at the 30th Annual Marketing Science Conference in Vancouver, BC. The 10 Fellows Awards were given in recognition of significant, long-term contributions in research, education, and service to the Society of Marketing Science's efforts to improve the understanding and practice of marketing.

Chris Knittel has won the 2020 International Journal of Industrial Organization (IJIO) Best Empirical Paper Award.  Knittel, along with co-authors Konstantinos Metaxoglou and André Trindade, won for the paper, “Environmental Implications of Market Structure: Shale Gas and Electricity Market.” Winners of the Best Paper Award are selected by the IJIO editors and announced in the last issue of each year.

Paul Osterman has been awarded a Visiting Scholar position at the Russell Sage Foundation in 2014-15. The Russell Sage Foundation was established in 1907 for "the improvement of social and living conditions in the United States." The Foundation now dedicates itself exclusively to strengthening the methods, data, and theoretical core of the social sciences as a means of diagnosing social problems and improving social policies. The Russell Sage Foundation invites Visiting Scholars to its New York headquarters to investigate topics in social and behavioral sciences; this work constitutes an important part of the Foundation's ongoing effort to analyze the shifting nature of social and economic life in the United States.

Sinan Aral has won the Network Science Best Paper Award, sponsored by the Indiana University Network Science Institute. This first-ever award was chosen by the editors from all papers published in the first four volumes of the journal, from 2013 to 2016. Aral’s winning paper, co-authored with Lev Muchnik (Hebrew University of Jerusalem School of Business Administration senior lecturer) and Arun Sundararajan (New York University Stern School of Business professor), is entitled “Engineering Social Contagions: Optimal Network Seeding in the Presence of Homophily.”

Nikolaos Trichakis and co-authors won the 2021 Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (M&SOM) Interface of Finance, Operations, and Risk Management Best Paper Award (First Prize) for the paper "On the Financing Benefits of Supply Chain Transparency and Blockchain Adoption." Published in Management Science, the paper's co-authors were Jiri Chod (University of Rochester), Gerry Tsoukalas (University of Pennsylvania & Boston University), Henry Aspegren (MIT), and Mark Weber (IBM Research; MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab).

 Emil Verner has won the 2021 European Systemic Risk Board’s Ieke van den Burg Prize, which recognizes outstanding research conducted by young scholars on a topic related to the ESRB’s mission in the macroprudential oversight of the European Union financial system and the prevention and mitigation of systemic risk. The prize is administered in the spirit of its namesake’s dedication to the belief that finance should serve society.  Verner’s winning paper, “Credit Allocation and Macroeconomic Fluctuations,” was co-authored with Karsten Müller (Princeton).
