Steve Eppinger has been named a 2023 Fellow of the Design Society, “an international interdisciplinary community of academics and industry practitioners who share a common interest in developing and promoting a robust, usable, and scalable means of designing complex solutions that are necessary for a sustainable and globalized society to continue to thrive.”

This honor recognizes outstanding contributions to the Society through service, practice, teaching, and research.

Jackson Lu has received three honors:

First, Lu received the 2023 New Investigator Award from the Behavioral Science & Policy Association (BSPA). This award recognizes “an early career scholar whose body of work has advanced the rigorous application and development of behavioral/social science to policy and practice in public, private and/or non-profit sectors.” The award was presented in May at the 2023 BSPA Online Conference on Behavioral Policy.

Second, Lu received the 2023 Outstanding Publication Award from the International Association for Conflict Management, which honors a publication that “significantly advances the study of conflict management and negotiation.” Lu’s winning paper, entitled “Multicultural Experiences: A Systematic Review and New Theoretical Framework,” is co-authored with William W. Maddux (UNC-Chapel Hill), Salvatore J. Affinito (Harvard Business School), and Adam D. Galinsky (Columbia University). The award was announced in July in Thessaloniki, Greece, at the 2023 International Association for Conflict Management annual conference.  (As announced last year, this paper also had won the 2022 Academy of Management Annals Best Article Award, chosen from those published in 2021.)

Third, Lu was a finalist for the Conference Theme Best Paper Award of the International Association for Chinese Management Research, for his working paper entitled, “Polyculturalism: Developing a Broader Scale and Understanding its Links to Creativity,” co-authored with Michael Morris (Columbia University) and Jaee Cho (HKUST). 

Wanda Orlikowski has received the 2023 Lifetime Service Achievement Award from the Academy of Management Communication, Digital Technology, and Organization (CTO) Division.

This award recognizes individuals who "have made outstanding service contributions to the CTO community over the course of their career,” and Orlikowski’s exemplary and long-standing research and mentoring contributions to the field were particularly cited.

The award was presented (photo here) during the AOM Annual Meeting in Boston.

Swati Gupta, incoming assistant professor of Operations Research and Statistics, has received a CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for her project entitled “Advancing Equity in Selection Problems Through Bias-Aware Optimization.”

CAREER Awards are the NSF’s “most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization,” whose activities “should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research.”

Rodrigo Verdi and Anna Stansbury (Work and Organization Studies) each received an Outstanding Teacher Award at the MIT Sloan Excellence in Teaching Awards. Each year, students nominate instructors for these teaching awards and the final recipients are chosen based on the quantity and quality of their nominations.

Swati Gupta won the JP Morgan Chase Early Career Faculty Award in 2021. The award honors “outstanding faculty researcher early in their careers.” Gupta won this while she was the Fouts Family Early Career Professor and assistant professor at the Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech.

Rodrigo Verdi and Kate Kellogg were each awarded the 2021 Jamieson Prize for Excellence in Teaching, established to honor educational innovation and excellence. The Jamieson Prize for Excellence in Teaching Award is the most prestigious teaching prize offered by the School. The award was established in 2006 and is awarded each year to two MIT Sloan faculty members,  as well as two electrical engineering and computer science faculty members, for their contributions to educational excellence at MIT.

Rodrigo Verdi and Nick Pudar (System Dynamics) were named co-winners of the MIT Sloan School Teacher of the Year for the 2020-2021 academic year. Each year, students nominate instructors for these teaching awards and the final recipients are chosen based on the quantity and quality of their nominations. Deputy Dean Michael Cusumano thanked the winners of this year's teaching awards for "exemplifying the dedication to pedagogical excellence that is so central to our mission at MIT Sloan."

Rodrigo Verdi has won a 2020 Teaching with Digital Technology Award from MIT for his work teaching on campus and/or remotely. Verdi won the award along with fellow Sloan faculty members Kara Blackburn, Vivek Farias, Michelle Hanlon, Alexandre Jacquillat, Miro Kazakoff, and Ben Shields. These student-nominated awards recognize faculty and instructors who have used digital technology to improve teaching and learning for MIT students. This recognition also gives the MIT community the opportunity to learn from their innovative practices. The awards were co-sponsored by MIT Open Learning and the Office of the Vice Chancellor. This year, students submitted a total of 487 nominations for 232 faculty and instructors, and 30 winners were selected by Dean of Digital Learning Krishna Rajagopal and Vice Chancellor Ian Waitz, with help from MIT Open Learning staff. 

Swati Gupta won the Class of 1934 CIOS Honor Roll in both 2021 and 2020 at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Gupta won this honor while she was an assistant professor and Fouts Family Early Career Professor there.
